First, here’s what’s new this week.
Obvious Choice Podcast Episodes:
*If you only listen to one, make it this one.
Money
1.
We revel in denying ourselves. “If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no.” Self-help books wrongly advise. The more we achieve, the more the bands of our lives tend to be constricted. Certainly we can’t do everything we want to, but occasionally we need to do something wild.
When you say yes, you begin exploring somebody else’s world; you ride somebody else’s ride. The only way to understand where you are in life is to go somewhere else. To get out of your autopilot. To check out in order to check back in.
From the podcast “When to say yes”
2.
We’re too close to our own world. Competition, not personal betterment, leads to a misguided desire to acquire. Envy’s the enemy of contentment.
Health
1.
When we expose ourselves to microdoses of adversity, it prepares us better to roll with the punches of everyday life.
2.
Regrets are inevitable. You’ll only ever get to find out what’s behind door number one. Even if the result of a decision that you make is positive, you’ll always wonder, “what if . . . “.
Make your regrets of commission, not omission. It’s much better to do something and have it not work out than not do something and have nothing happen.
Relationships
1.
In her Dear Sugar column, Cheryl Strayed wrote:
“The reality is we often become our kindest, most ethical selves only by seeing what it feels like to be a selfish jackass first.”
A Few Good Quotes from a Great Book
“There’s a subtle certainty that comes from knowing many things.”
“We are all creatures of habit. It is far too easy to stay in the familiar ruts we dig for ourselves.
“We stare at a fire because it flickers, because it glows. The light is what catches our eyes, but what makes a man lean close to a fire has nothing to do with its bright shape. What draws you to a fire is the warmth you feel when you come near. The same was true of Denna.”
-Patrick Rothfuss (from The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle Book 1)
And Patrick, this is Jon. If you’re reading this, I’m still waiting for the third book . . .

Just had three tons of stone delivered. Hopefully all that weightlifting I’ve been doing for the last 23 years was functional ’cause once I’m done here I need to move it into my garden.
