Here are a few short thoughts this week.
Money

It’s perfectly okay that there won’t be a book written about your life. Better, even. Nobody writes books about lives well-lived because they follow routine fundamentals that result in boringly good outcomes. Basically, they make for bad stories.

So this is the real part, right here: Even in bad times, unfair times, times where you are deprived of what is rightfully yours, your mind remains your own. So does your skills. And your network.

Health

Work backwards from what you want. What do you want your body to look like? Imagine that is the reality now. What needs to be in place in order for you to get there. OK. Are you willing to do that? To show up to the gym? To eat that way? Be realistic. If you’re not, adjust the goal. If you are, then there’s only one question left–Are you going to do the reps? Or are you not going to do the reps?

I was brought up with the belief that there are two types of people in this world: There are people who use their spare time to exercise, and there are people who are successful. Nobody told me how much more successful in my career exercising regularly would make me become.
Relationships
1
“Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life… You give them a piece of you. They don’t ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore.”
